BARIPADA: Six persons, including a child, died and 20 were injured in a road accident in Mayurbhanj district on Saturday evening. The deceased persons include members of a local opera party.Police said the mishap occurred when the mini-truck in which they were travelling fell into a ditch after it hit an electric pole as the driver lost control over the vehicle.The accident took place at Jaladunguri square, about 3 km from Badampahar police station. The injured were rushed to Rairangpur primary health centre (PHC) and later five of them were shifted to district headquarters hospital when their condition deteriorated. The deceased have been identified as Budha Singh (35), Sunaram Singh (30), Sunaram Singh (35) of Dudura village of Jashipur block and Ladha Sardhar (35) of Dumar village of Jamada block. The identity of two others is yet to be established. They were returning to their village after attending Bandhan festival at Pasanda village in Jamada block.Driver of the vehicle is absconding. Police have urged the regional transport officer of Baripada to inquire into the ownership of the vehicle. A case has been registered.
