Bengaluru: After Union Minister Anant Hedge's distasteful remark against Dinesh Gundu Rao's wife, it was former Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah who courted controversy when his attempt to snatch the mic from a woman complainant resulted in her dupatta being pulled off.

At an event in Mysuru, the unidentified woman complained to Siddaramaiah that she has not been able to get in touch with MLA Yathindra, who is Siddaramaiah's son. At this the former CM, who is surrounded by men all around, lost his cool and lunged towards the woman to snatch the very mic she was holding. In the process, the dupatta also came off with the mic and the whole thing did look pretty bad for the former CM.

The incident, which was captured on video, shows the former CM shouting the woman down. The unperturbed woman continued with her questions and others had to intervene to calm her down.

The lady in the video was later identified as Jamalar. Siddaramaiah too said that he has known the lady in question for 15 years.

"The incident happened in an attempt to stop a party worker's long speech at a meeting in Varun today. It was by accident. I have known that worker for 15 years; she is like my sister," Siddaramaiah clarified on Twitter.

Speaking to News18 Kannada, Jamalar said, "Siddaramaiah is like my elder brother. I wouldn't have felt bad even if he had hit me. Siddaramaiah is Mysore tiger. He was inaccessible when I met him, and in the heat of the moment I said what I said to him. At that time he said "you are talking too much" and snatched the mic."

Jamalar said there is nothing else to the incident and stressed that Siddaramaiah has helped her a lot. "I made a mistake slamming the table and he got angry and reacted that way. He is a big CM (former). We are small people and don't know what tension he had. I talked and made him even more angry. Please stop this here. Not just scold me, even if he had hit me I wouldn't feel bad," said Jamalar.

The Karnataka BJP was quick to take note of the incident and termed Siddaramaiah as "Kaurava government's modern Dushashan", which is a reference to epic Mahabharata where Dushashan, Duryodhana's brother, disrobed Draupadi in front of the king's general assembly.
