New Delhi: Saina Nehwal, desperate to be back in the court to prepare for the World Championships starting next week, resumed training under coach Pullela Gopichand in his academy in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
The 20-year-old badminton player had been suffering from chicken pox that threatened her participation in the World Championship but she is now hopeful of being fit in time for the tournament.
Saina, who had recently won the Arjuna Award, had been suffering from mild fever, along with chicken pox since last week and was advised complete bed rest.
She has got a bye in the women's singles first round of the World Badminton Championships.
In the third-round, she may face 10th seed Bulgarian Petya Nedelcheva and if she wins that game she will face second seeded Lin Wang of China in the quarter-finals.
The World Badminton Championships will be held in Hyderabad on August 10-16.
Her coach Gopichand was awarded the prestigious Dronacharya Award.
