HYDERABAD: The 48-hour bandh called by the TJAC pressing for a separate state was successful on the second day on Wednesday barring stray incidents of violence at Osmania University. Educational institutions and business establishments remained shut, while commuters faced lot of problems with public transport services staying off the roads.Osmania University students planned to take out a rally on Wednesday from the university campus to Telangana Martyrs’ Memorial at Gun Park demanding removal of clause 14 (F) from the Presidential order. However, they were interrupted by the police at the NCC Gate leading to angry protests. Students pelted stones at the police who in turn fired teargas shells to disperse the mob. The OU police station was attacked by the students forcing the police to fire rubber bullets resulting in severe injuries to a student.TJAC chairman M Kodandaram and a few other Telangana activists, who were on their way to OU, were arrested by the police near RTC crossroads  leading to angry protests.  The police also arrested several other leaders and their supporters for organising dharnas and rasta rokos. However, they were all released in the evening.Educational institutions and commercial establishments were closed for the second consecutive day. RTC buses and MMTS services were cancelled for most part of the day but resumed late in the evening at a few places. Auto drivers had a field day making some quick bucks. Due to the bandh, the APSRTC suffered a loss of about Rs 18 crore in the two days. Two private buses were set ablaze by miscreants in Rangareddy district. Doctors also took part in the bandh and boycotted  duties except for emergency services. As a result, patients at several government hospitals were put to lot of inconvenience. The Kakatiya University has announced that all examinations including undergraduate, post-graduate and distance mode courses scheduled to be held till July 10, have been cancelled and fresh dates would be announced later.The pro-Telangana activists including employees, students and others took out rallies and staged dharnas and rasta rokos across the region.  The activists continued their protests in front of the houses of the legislators who did not quit their posts.
