SC Judge Justice MR Shah Suffers Heart Attack in Himachal, Being Airlifted to Delhi; Says ‘I’ll be Fine’
The personal secretary of the sitting SC judge said he suffered heart discomfort, and that arrangements were being made to airlift him to Delhi for further treatment

Supreme Court sitting judge Justice MR Shah sustained a cardiac arrest in Himachal Pradesh on Thursday. Shah was airlifted to Delhi and admitted to a private hospital. Justice Shah had presided over a vacation bench in the top court last week.

Chief Justice of India NV Ramana visited him at Escorts Hospital in the evening to inquire about his health. He had been in constant touch with Justice Shah and the ministry of home affairs since morning.

The CJI inquired about Justice Shah’s health from the doctors attending him, an official source said. Earlier in the day, Justice Shah had complained of discomfort in the chest. To allay speculation, in a video message later, the apex court judge said he is “okay and stable” and coming back to Delhi.

In the video, Justice Shah is seen lying down and is saying he is stable. “By the grace of God, I am okay, stable; I am reaching Delhi soon. I have my family’s blessings and day after tomorrow, I will be okay,” he adds.

Supreme Court advocate and BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia also tweeted: “Hon’ble Justice MR Shah Judge Supreme Court of India has suffered a heart attack while he was in Himachal Pradesh. Arrangements being made to rush him to Delhi. Praying to God for his speedy recovery.” (sic)

The 64-year-old Shah has served as a judge of the Gujarat High Court, and then became the chief justice of the Patna HC before taking charge as an SC judge.
