New Delhi: Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf arrived in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday amid speculation that he will reach out to former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

Musharraf left a trail of speculation that he was on a mission to end his political isolation at home by reaching out to his Nawaz, who is his political foe.

Nawaz, who has been living in Jeddah since he was deported to Saudi Arabia from Islamabad on September 10, has indicated he will not meet Musharraf unless the Emergency in Pakistan is called off.

Musharraf is due to meet King Abdullah before going on pilgrimage to Mecca. Reports suggest that the the Saudi government is trying to facilitate a reconciliation between Musharraf and Nawaz.

The General has been under pressure from Pakistani opposition, the United States and other Western governments to revoke the Emergency rule he announced on November 3 and ensure elections in January are held under free and fair conditions.

Nawaz Sharif was deposed by Musharraf eight years ago in a coup.
