THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: When it comes to music, old is gold, we all say. This time, it is the turn of Satyam Audios to prove the adage true. The company is taking music lovers to that good old era of gramophone records. The company is coming out with an LP (Long Playing) gramophone record, featuring eight popular songs of legendary K J Yesudas. These melodies, over which Satyam has the copyright, will be released  by M Jayachandran at a function to be held at Ernakulam Press Club on July 16. ``From what we have learnt, it was in 1987 that the last Malayalam LP record came out. It had songs from `Chithram, Oru Muthassi Katha, Manu Uncle’ etc,’’ said Premchandran, who founded Satyam 12 years ago. The LP records are played at 33 revolutions per minute. It was in 1958 that the Gramophone Company of India (better known as HMV) brought out the first microgroove LP in India and 10 years later the first LP record came out in Malayalam, featuring songs of `Chitramela, Moodalmanju,  Kattuppookkal’ etc. Recording labels such as Tharangini, Ranjini, AVM and Inreco went on to bring out more LP records in Malayalam. ``It is an experimental venture from the company. The reason why we decided to launch LP records is that there are many people who still listen to them. The best thing about the records is that they have terrific sound quality. You get the same effect of a studio recording,’’ Prem said.Another significant aspect is that there has been a never-before demand for gramophone record players as well, he said. ``People are asking for the gramophone sets. In fact, since last year a leading music store in Kochi has been selling record players,’’ he said. The LP record has some of the best melodious numbers of Yesudas, from films Krishnagudiyil Oru Pranayakalathu (two songs), Devadoothan (Karale nin...), Nottam (Pachappanamthathe...), Ayal Katha Ezhuthukuyaanu (Etho nidra than...), Meesha Madhavan (Ente ellam ellam...), Paranjutheeratha Visheshangal (Manasse paadu nee...) and Udayanaanu Thaaram (Parayathe ariyathe...).  Satyam is also planning to launch another LP record, with the songs of Shreya Ghosal, Prem said.
