CHENNAI: The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, Tiruvallur District, has ordered the Chief Executive Officer of the Central Government Employees Welfare Housing Organisation (CGEWHO) to pay Rs 50,000 to a 71-year-old retired Indian Telecom Services employee after the former delayed the completion of a flat allotted to him. The forum said that the complainant was put through hardship and mental agony by the unfair trade practice and deficiency in service on the part of the CGEWHO.Failure to pay the compensation within one month from the date of receipt of copy of the order would attract an interest at 12 per cent till payment.According to the complainant D Thiruvateeswaran of Ashok Nagar, he was allotted a ‘D’ type flat in Paruttippattu on the Poonamallee-Avadi High Road by CGEWHO on February 24, 2006. According to the CGEWHO, the construction was to commence in 2006 and completed within 30 months. The complainant paid a total of Rs 16 lakh, but the completion of the project was delayed beyond 30 months.
