New Delhi: With two city auditions done and three more scheduled over this month, MTV Hero Roadies Season 9 has its hand on the accelerator and is raring to go.
The faces of Roadies – Rannvijay, Raghu and Rajiv got candid at a press conference in the city. They talked about what was in store of season 9 and how the journey had been this far.
After Australia, Africa and Brazil – the Roadies team has zeroed down on the USA for this season. Why the USA? Rannvijay said that this season was all about 'Everything or Nothing' and that is what America stands for. A cross cultural mix, the continent has NBA, NFL, NASCAR, Hollywood, Vegas and the list has just begun he added. All these together put forth incredible opportunities for thrilling tasks. Raghu and Rajiv added that according to a poll on the Roadies Facebook page – USA was the most voted destination for Roadies Season 9. Chasing the American dream are we Roadies?
Roadies is the only show that does not follow a western format – and has been registered in 19 countries added Rannvijay. "It is our show and we can change the game" – that philosophy has carried this road trip based reality show to a successful season 9.
The show has a massive fan following across ages and the niche genre it has decided to cater to has them not competing with the GECs for the audience pie. The whole idea behind Roadies has always been to train the youth – Raghu and Rajiv said unanimously. They pointed out that they have lashed out against people in the auditions who misbehaved or who have had derogatory ideas about women or life values. Values matter to these men and Rannvijay guarantees that when in trouble – they are the best people to turn to! We could take that chance happily.
Two auditions down and three more to go and the three men exclaimed that it was exhausting sitting through the judges panel. Rajiv said that it left them brain dead. Except for a few nice people – the rest of the auditions were a blank for the three.
The whole idea is to be 'real' said Rajiv. The team want to work with people who want to be real and the best part is going up against people who are scared to be real. "Humans are reactive," said Rajiv and reality shows were all about encashing on the reactions.
"There is nothing that will not work for us…" says Raghu. Every twist is the trajectory of the show is committed to – controversies will happen – but the team do not interfere he said. When asked about Suchit's 'unfair' elimination or Mohit's option of choosing money over his elimination or vice versa – Raghu And Rajiv just said – the twists are decided upon – which contestant fits in to that groove is not something that they decide.
Talking about other reality shows that are taking on the brash, in-your-face attitude to get TRPs – Raghu said that they were like Usain Bolt. There could be a million people running on the same track but not all are champions. The audience matter – but at the end of the day it is not just about the ratings.
Raghu concluded that Roadies, in the end was all about the past catching up. At the grand finale – it is easier to do a task than to have the other 11 roadies vote for you. It is a about redemption – for that one winner will have stepped over 12 others to get the money and the coveted bike. No one can go scot-free says Raghu.
All gathered at the press-conference were surprised at the candid ease with which Raghu, Rajiv and Rannvijay took on the press – "Why can’t people have two faces?" asked Raghu.
Raghu has his hands tied up with Roadies and wants to write a book about the show and Rajiv has Colosceum Media that keeps him busy – so Bollywood roles are on a hold for now. Rannvijay is busy with the promotions for Nagesh Kukkunoor’s ‘Mod’ and Roadies 9 is all set to go. Looks like the men will be busy for a good while.
