Rivals in Bollywood? Nah! We are all genuine friends: Parineeti Chopra
Parineeti feels the new crop of actors don't get involved in mutual loathing as they are busy proving their mettle.

New Delhi: It is quite obvious that Parineeti Chopra is in a happy space these days. That's solely because she isn't wandering aimlessly. And unlike others, who become confused or overwhelmed with the variety of roles that are offered only to find themselves facing a dead end, Parineeti is sure of what she wants in life. Whether it is the films she has done so far, or the enthusiasm she shows in experimenting with her looks, Parineeti's conscious decisions spell out the precise route to a fulfilling position in Bollywood. And the key reason to accept her upcoming film 'Hasee Toh Phasee' was to prove that she doesn't want to end up being predictable or repetitive. On her recent trip to the capital, the actress got talking about insecurities that exist in Bollywood, why the new crop of actors have no rivals and a lot more.

Insecurity at work can thwart anyone's career even before it takes off. Like any other career option, acting too comes with its share of insecurities, which if not conquered can prove detrimental. Parineeti, who acknowledges the possibility of an actor going through a dry spell when it comes to getting the right movies and roles, feels the fear that stems from insecurities can also turn into a recipe for victory.

"There is no denying the fact that insecurities exist for actors too. Everybody in the industry works hard, but you have to understand the fact that as actors, our careers are not in our hands. We depend entirely on the acceptance by the viewers. Everybody wants to be an actor, a director, and works diligently. I have given my best in 'Hasee Toh Phasee'. But some make it, and some don't because some like you, and some don't; some are born with the face, and some not. So yes, these ideas do exist. I think because we are dependent on public opinion, there is always a great sense of anxiety," she explains.

Another issue Parineeti has to deal with is comparisons with sibling Priyanka Chopra. Parineeti, unfazed with such comparisons, remains determined about carving a niche for herself in the industry. "Comparisons with Priyanka are so futile and unnecessary. I love her work, and I say this not just as a sibling but also as an actor. And I obviously feel proud when people say, 'Priyanka is a good actress and so is Parineeti'. As long as the comparison remains like this, I don't have a problem. But yes, as an actor you do get selfish and make an attempt to create a name for yourself, your own identity and image. And that's what even I want to achieve. I hope, one day, in that sense, there is a division. Since I'm Priyanka's sister, I will always be compared with her. It would be great to work with Priyanka, but there has to be a great script too."

Even though acting has taken precedence over singing, the actress is hopeful of realizing her dream of becoming an accomplished singer. "Yes, I'm a trained singer and singing is my first love. I still remember how I used to do riyaaz everyday to ensure I was good at it. But now that I'm acting, singing has taken a backseat. However, I hope I do get to sing for myself because that has been an ambition all my life," she says.

Parineeti, who will soon be seen in 'Koffee with Karan', has been making headlines for praising Alia Bhatt for her acting potential and screen presence. To the uninitiated, Parineeti had recently said had she not been an actress, she would have been Alia's fan, a statement which isn't easy to make, especially when the competition in Bollywood gets fierce by the day. While many think actors despise their rivals, a tradition that existed in Bollywood even in 70s and 80s, Parineeti says the new crop of actors don't get involved in mutual loathing. "We all are genuine friends. There is so much work, how can there be any rivalry?"

Having won the National Film Award - Special Mention for 'Ishaqzaade', the star would obviously want to earn more national honours, but that doesn't mean she will only concentrate on roles that help her bag them. "I was quite surprised when I got a Special Mention for my first film. Since I give my best to each film, I would want to the biggest honours to be given to me. As an actress, I would like to win a national award every year, but this doesn't mean I will only do roles that will help me bag national awards. Not at all. My current ambition is to establish myself as the best actress so that the directors and co-stars are confident of me. I would want to achieve this with my first 5 films and will start experimenting more with the roles I want to do. I will do films for different reason," she adds.
