Review liquor policy: Church to Government

KOCHI: The Mar Thoma Church Development Department has asked the UDF Government to review its liquor policy so as to reduce the availability of liquor in the state. The new policy does not contain any step to reduce its availability, it said. This demand was made in a resolution passed at the annual meeting of the  Kottayam-Kochi diocese centre of the department at Chemmarappally Bethel church the other day. Dr Yuyakim Mar Coorilose  Episcopa inaugurated the meeting which was presided over by Rev Dr  K V Simon, diocesan vice-president of the development department. Mar Thoma Church diocesan secretary Rev K V Cherian, managing committee member Kuruvila Mathews,  diocesan secretary P K Thomas, treasurer Josy Kurian and field officer  C K Varghese spoke.The new office-bearers of the development committee  for 2011-2014 are Dr Yuyakim Mar Coorilose, president, Rev Philip Varghese, vice-president, Josy Kurian, secretary and Kuruvila Mathews treasurer. George Thomas, Abraham P Thomas and Kuruvila Mathews  were elected for the central committee.
