BANGALORE: A three-month-old baby elephant, rescued from Kollegal Forest Division was brought to Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) on Thursday. With an addition of one more elephant, the total number of elephants in the BBP has gone up to 14, said R Raju, Executive Director, BBP.Deserted by its mother in the forest, the elephant calf had reached Mahalinganakatte village along with the village cattle herd. On getting the information, Hanur Range Forest Officer and staff reached the spot and rescued the baby elephant and shifted it to BBP. “The baby elephant is very weak, tender and suffering from malnutrition. It has been put into intensive care and is being closely monitored. The health condition of the baby elephant is not satisfactory. All efforts are being put to save the orphaned animal,” said Raju.
