GANGAVATHI: Only litterateurs and writers who understand well the problem of Kannada should be elected president of Kannada Development Authority and Kannada Sahitya Parishat, and deputing people who provide only lip service is of no use, president of 78th ABKSS C P Krishnakumar said on Sunday.“I have called upon the people to reject those politicians who do not work for Kannada, and I believe that the government will consider the resolutions passed here seriously,” he said at the function. When his attention was drawn to the demand that Sammelan presidents should be given a status equal to ministerial berth, CPK explained that ministerial status did not mean that government should provide a car and salary but a yearlong responsibility of developing Kannada.Stressing that the KSP must come out of its dependency on government, CPK said political influence had diminished the spirit of the body. He also opposed KDA chairman Mukhayamantri Chandru’s statement that Sammelans should be held once in three years because there was no logical reason for such a step.He deplored the ‘culture of silence’ that Kannadigas had embraced, and said: “It is high time we woke up and fought for our language and culture.”He appreciated the media for responsibly reporting the event. CPK said, “This is the ace of all the Sammelans held for the celebration and development of Kananda. I was happy for being selected as the president of the Sammelan, but I was worried when my friends warned me that there might be lack of facilities. The organisers and the people of Gangavathi proved them wrong.”Gangavathi MLA Paranna Munavalli and Gangavathi taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Basavaraj Koti were present.
