BANGALORE:  In order to ensure that there is adequate water in the lakes that do not have sufficient inflow due to encroachments, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) is undertaking a pilot project to recycle sewage and let it flow to Agaram lake.
KSPCB Chairman A S Sadashivaiah said, besides developing infrastructure to recycle 1 MLD of sewerage we will rejuvenate the lake and undertake the beautification works in and around the lake at the cost of `3 crore. "At present our engineers are working with Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) to prepare the plans and this will be the first lake in which tertiary treatment plant would be set up to ensure that we get good quality water from treated sewerage," he said.

According to Sadashivaiah, the KSPCB will source the sewage from the surrounding areas with the help of the BWSSB whenever necessary and treat it to the tertiary level before letting it flow into the lake. The lake would be developed on par with the Hebbal lake and boating and other facilities would also be provided at the lake.

It may be recalled that the BBMP and Bangalore Development Authority had undertaken rejuvenation works on nearly 35 lakes in the city in the last two years. The inflow to most of these lakes have reduced over a period of time.

This will be the first lake to have water generated from treated sewage in the state capital.
