NALGONDA: Shopping for the Dasara festival is an annual affair for the family of Poshaboina Giribabu, an office subordinate working at the zilla parishad office. This year also, they spent their weekend shopping but with a shoestring budget. His wife Chandrakala has decided to cut the festival budget from `2,000 to `1,000 as Giri is unlikely to receive his salary for the month of September, which is payable in October, due to the strike.
"We have decided to purchase clothes for our two daughters first and we will purchase for ourselves later as we have cut our expenses on everything this month and save whatever we can for the next month," said Giribabu. He said they had huge cuts in expenditure on items ranging from groceries to entertainment. But the family does not mind putting up with the difficulties feeling confident that a separate T is inevitable _ at least tomorrow, if not immediately. Giri has already made arrangements with moneylenders and his grocer to obtain some credit for next month to run the family."With a meagre monthly salary of `13,500 it is difficult for a government servant to run a family of five in the age of skyrocketing prices. The situation will turn worse during festivals when we need to purchase new clothes and buy more commodities. But this time, we have decided to reduce our expenses. We will be happy to celebrate formation of separate T than Dasara and Diwali," said Chandrakala.
