New Delhi: Railways have decided to acquire 400 more devices for trains to tackle fog during winter. Northern Railway has already acquired 182 Fog Safe devices. These devices help loco drivers running trains in foggy condition.
"It was decided at a meeting chaired by General Manager of Northern Railway to acquire 400 more Fog Safe devices and maintain punctuality in train operation in the coming winter season," said a senior Northern Railway official.
"A committee of senior officers has been formed to identify sections and trains in which these Fog Safe devices would be utilised," the official said adding "the automatic signaling section and other main line sections would be covered first for the usage of the device."
The conversion of automatic signals to semi-automatic signals in some sections would be completed before the season of fog starts as the automatic signals do not function properly in dense fog.
"The train crew and other line staff are being counselled about proper usage and various aspects of Fog Devices, semi-automatic signals and other related factors so as to tackle the fog, he said.
Railways would ensure that ice-cutting equipments provided in DMU rakes in Kashmir and the heat equipments provided in the Valley and narrow gauge hill railways in Himachal Pradesh function properly, the official said.
