CHENNAI: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) detained 20 male passengers on charges of commuting in the ladies compartment on Wednesday morning, only to let them off when it was found that the train they were travelling in didn’t even have a ladies compartment! The incident took place around 8 am at the Chengalpattu Station. The men were then forced to board the next train to Chennai. According to official sources, RPF officials at Tambaram, acting on a complaint from women on the Puducherry — Chennai Egmore train that men were occupying the women’s coach, asked the men to alight at Chengalpattu. Later, it was “revealed that the train did not have a ladies compartment,” an official said, adding that the men were let off immediately.
