Puducherry is gearing up to host the international conference of the All India Peace and Solidarity Organisation on October 7 this year.
Addressing a press conference here today, All India General Secretary of the organisation, Pallob Sengupta, said that the organisation was started by the former Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, in 1951 to create an awareness on unity, world peace and disarmament. The national conference would be held in Puducherry on October 5 and 6 and the international conference on October 7.
The conference was aimed at strengthening secularism and opposing religious fundamentalism, strengthening the struggle for nuclear disarmament and raising voice against escalation of arms race. The conference would also discuss specific international issues of conflict and adopt resolutions.
K Lakshminarayanan, president of organisation, said that resolutions urging the Indian Govt to restore Sri Lankan Tamils rights and draw international attention on the issue would be adopted in the conference.
Sengupta said delegates from 21 states would take part in the national conference and delegates from 15 countries would take part in the international conference. Palestine and Cuban Ambassadors would be among the dignitaries participating.
