A protest by lawyers demanding action against some policemen for allegedly misbehaving with a former bar association official turned violent on Thursday, with some of them vandalising properties in the Ghaziabad court complex.
Lawyers have been protesting in Ghaziabad for the past two days against the police for allegedly not taking action against its officials who had allegedly misbehaved with the bar association's former secretary Shashi Tyagi at a police station. The alleged incident happened on April 13 when Tyagi went to the Kavi Nagar police station in Ghaziabad in connection with a case.
"Today, the lawyers' agitation went violent when some of them suddenly started vandalising tables and chairs kept at a police post on the premises of the Ghaziabad courts complex. Angry lawyers also broke a door metal detector," said a senior police official. The lawyers also raised slogans against police, threatening to continue with the agitation if no action was taken against the personnel in question. The protest, meanwhile, affected works in various courts of Ghaziabad.
