Bhopal: It’s the latest twist in a case that's seen many flip-flops already. The Madhya Pradesh government has accused Himanshu Sabharwal, son of the late Professor Sabharwal of blackmailing the government.
Himanshu allegedly demanded Rs 50 lakh from the state government for keeping silent about his father's death, which was allegedly at the hands of BJP student leaders.
As proof, the state government has released a letter written by Himanshu to the Ujjain district collector in October last year.
In the letter, Himanshu asks for Rs 25-lakh compensation for his mother, a memorial for his father and a scholarship or tournament in his father’s name.
Himanshu says his demands are justified and that the government is trying to save the accused by preventing investigating agencies from doing their job.
"Yes I did write the letter and why not? My father died on duty. I have also demanded a tournament or a scholarship in his name apart from all these things," said Himanshu.
The ruling BJP government desperately wants to ensure that this case is not moved out of Madhya Pradesh and believes the allegation appears to be an attempt to undermine his credibility to create an impression that there is nothing wrong with the on going professor murder trial.
