Prapawadee Jaroenrattanatarakon of Thailand on Sunday set a new Olympic record by heaving 126kg in the clean and jerk on the way to winning the women's 53kg weightlifting gold.
The previous Olympic record was set by China's Yang Xia at the 2000 Games in Sydney.
The Thai made a final attempt to break the clean and jerk world record but her 130kg lift was unsuccessful.
