CHENNAI: The Madras High Court on Tuesday dismissed an anticipatory bail application by Puducherry Education Minister PML Kalyanasundaram in a case related to impersonation. When the matter came up for further hearing, Justice S Palanivelu dismissed Kalyanasundaram’s plea by stating that the Minister, if granted advance bail, could use his influence to destroy evidence against him in the impersonation case.Given the condition of the enquiry in the impersonation case, advance bail to the minister could not be granted by the High Court, the judge observed while dismissing his plea.In his advance bail application, Kalyanasundaram, representing Kalapet Assembly constituency, submitted that he wrote the science subject for 10th standard at the exam centre at Tagore Matriculation High School in Tindivanam on September 29. He, however, did not attend the social science exam the next day, as he was held up in Assembly meeting. It may be noted that the Madras High Court in its interim order last month had barred the Tamil Nadu police from arresting Kalyanasundaram until further orders.
