BHUBANESWAR: The KIIT and the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) will jointly organise the 99th Indian Science Congress from January 3 to 7 here. The meet will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The most important congregation of scientists in the country is being held in Orissa after 34 years. Around 15,000 delegates from around the world, including 20 Nobel Laureates, will attend the event, KIIT founder Dr A Samanta said. The Children’s Science and Women’s Science Congress will be held simultaneously. The UNESCO Kalinga Award, instituted on a donation from Biju Patnaik, will be given away during the congress. Scientific agencies of Government of India will put up stalls to exhibit their products and achievements. Quiz and essay competitions will be organised among school and college students at the State and national level to further scientific temper among the students. The competitions will have attractive prize money. A ‘Bigyan Rath’ will be taken out from Puri and touch all the districts on the eve of the event. TK Chandrasekhar, Director, NISER, Bhubaneswar, will be the co-organising chairman of the congress.
