New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the North Eastern Council (NEC) meeting in Meghalaya on Friday.
The meeting will be held in Shillong where Governors and Chief Ministers of eight north eastern states will meet Modi to discuss the major issues related to development of the region.
The meeting is likely to be a crucial for the North Eastern Region because after nearly three decades a Prime Minister will be attending the NEC meeting.
He will also release a special cover and a stamp brought out by the Department of Posts to mark the occasion.
Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region Jitendra Singh on Thursday had said, "In last two years under the leadership of PM Modi, the North Eastern Region has witnessed massive development."
The North Eastern Council is the nodal agency of the Ministry of Development for North Eastern Region that comprises of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.
It was constituted in 1971 which marked the beginning of a new chapter of concerted and planned endeavour for the rapid development of the Region.
