New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 141st birth anniversary on Monday.
PM Modi offered floral tributes at Sardar Patel’s statue at Patel Chowk in Delhi’s Parliament Street.
Delhi's Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung was also present at the venue and paid homage to Sardar Patel. Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu paid floral tributes to Sardar Patel along with the Prime Minister.

The day is being celebrated as ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ (National Unity Day). PM Modi tweeted, "I bow to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his birth anniversary. We recall his rich contribution to India".

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was born on October 31, 1875 in Nadiad, a small village in Gujarat. He was conferred with the highest civilian honour, Bharat Ratna, in 1991 for his services to the nation. Patel was popularly known as the 'Iron man' of India.
On Sunday, PM Modi had highlighted the contribution of Vallabhbhai Patel in uniting the country during his popular radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’. He pointed out that Vallabhbhai Patel contributed significantly in strengthening the cooperative movement in the country, adding that the country’s first home minister dedicated himself to the welfare of farmers.
