New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday met the chiefs of the Army and the Air Force along with the Vice Chief of the Navy reportedly to discuss India's security preparedness in the wake of Uri terror attack.
The meeting assumes significance as it comes against the backdrop of the deadly Uri attack.
However, Defence sources described the meeting as "routine". The chiefs of the armed forces have a monthly meeting with the Prime Minister to discuss various issues, they said.
Apart from Chief of Army Staff General Dalbir Singh Suhag, Air Chief Marshall Arup Raha and the Vice Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Karambir Singh, the National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval was also present in the meeting at the PM's 7 Lok Kalyan Marg residence.
Navy Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba was not present in the meeting as he is not in Delhi.
Sources said, the Prime Minister was briefed about the situation on the borders and India's response to the Uri attack in which 18 Indian soldiers were martyred and four suspects were killed in a gun battle on September 18.
Soon after the Uri attack, PM condemned the attack and tweeted that the perpetrators will not go unpunished.
On last Sunday the armed terrorists lobbed grenades into tents and barracks at Uri Army base, while the soldiers were sleeping.
