Earlier, writer Nayantara Sahgal and renowned poet and former chairman of the Lalit Kala Akademi Ashok Vajpeyi returned their respective Sahitya Akademi awards protesting against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence over the Dadri lynching case.
Thiruvananthapuram: Novelist and short story writer Sara Joseph will return her Kendra Sahitya Akademi award protesting the incident in Dadri, the killing of M M Kalburgi and the overall situation in India where writers don't have the freedom to express themselves.
She said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi didn't express solidarity with the family at Dadri and it's a bad and terrible situation in the country. "The government is trying to interfere in the good habits of people", she added.
