Agartala: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's proposed visit to Tripura on July 22 has been cancelled owing to unavoidable circumstances, official sources said.
The Prime Minister was scheduled to visit the state capital to inaugurate the newly built Assembly Building and lay the foundation stone for a new Governor's House at the new capital complex.
The state government has received an official communication from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) about the cancellation of the visit on Saturday evening, the sources said.
"Prime Minister himself called up Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and informed him that it would not be possible to visit the state due to his important engagements in Delhi on July 22," Information officer, Dibyendu Datta told PTI.
However, the state government will go ahead with its scheduled programme of inauguration of the Assembly Building on July 22.
