Petrol price hike: Delhi BJP to organise blockades
BJP says it will carry out 'Chakka Jam' at 14 prominent places in the capital on Monday.

New Delhi: BJP on Sunday lashed out at the UPA government for the "steepest" hike in petrol prices and announced that the party would organise blockades at prominent places in the national capital on Monday.

"Today, BJP took out rallies at five important places of Delhi to protest unprecedented increase in the price of petrol and registered it's opposition to it. Tomorrow, at 14 prominent places 'Chakka Jam' will be done," the BJP said in a release.

Delhi BJP chief Vijender said, "Just after the conclusion of election process in five states the UPA government has imposed a big burden on the people."

He said the so-called pro-poor UPA government hiked the petrol price by Rs 5 per litre.

Eight months ago, the UPA government had allowed the PSU oil companies to fix the prices and they, in turn, hiked the prices by Rs 15 per litre in eight times, the release said.

The petrol, which was being sold at Rs 47.93 per litre on April one, last year, now costs Rs 63.67 per litre, it said, adding "the Government should have cut the tax on petrol in place of increasing the price..."
