Mother of Karan Pandey, who was shot dead by police in an alleged attempt to stop stunt bikers from performing risky stunts in high-security New Delhi area, on Wednesday met Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi demanding proper action against the officer responsible for her son's death.
"I met the Commissioner at around 11:30 AM. I have asked him to take proper action against Inspector Rajneesh Parmar who shot my son. The Commissioner has assured me that proper action will be taken soon. He also assured me that the Delhi police is with me," said Manju Pandey.
19-year-old Karan was killed and another youth injured when Inspector Rajneesh Parmar opened fire during an attempt to stop a large group of bikers from performing dangerous stunts on July 28 in the high-security New Delhi area. Karan was riding pillion on his friend Punit's motorcycle. Punit (19) had also received injuries after falling off the bike in the incident.
According to police, the officer fired at the tyre of the motorcycle after issuing three warnings but the bullet accidentally hit Pandey. The victims were rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where Karan was declared brought dead. A medical examination revealed that Punit was under the influence of alcohol.
