Bhubaneswar: Despite a word of caution from the Centre, the Orissa government has allowed Sangh Parivar and Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati Sradhanjali Samiti (SLSSS) to hold a 'peaceful' rally in Bhubaneswar on Saturday without affecting communal amity.
The Centre through a letter had asked the State government not to allow the rally in view of the 'tense' situation in communally sensitive Kandhamal and elsewhere in Orissa, officials said.
"The rally could create law and order problem and also affect restoration of peace in Kandhamal," the officials said, quoting the Union Home Ministry's letter.
Apparently succumbing to the pressure from its ally BJP, the State government, however, allowed the rally with certain conditions.
"We have allowed the rally on the conditions that no provocative slogans should be made during the speeches and there should be no display of weapons," a senior official at Bhubaneswar-Cuttack police commissionrate said.
