THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan on Friday flayed what he called the consistent negative stance of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in the Assembly on the police excesses upon Koyilandi MLA K Dasan a few days ago and charged that the attempt was to make the injured legislator a liar. Addressing mediapersons along with Dasan after leading an Opposition boycott on the last day of the fourth session of the 13th Kerala Legislative Assembly in protest against the government stance, Achuthanandan said that though the Chief Minister had given an undertaking three days ago on the floor of the House that a second report from the police would be availed and tabled before the end of the current session itself and action would be initiated against the circle inspector who had led the action if necessary, nothing had happened. ‘’The Chief Minister was very keen to defend the police officer to the hilt. He was not ready to have a look into the version of the MLA. When the second report came, there was no mention about the FIR. The Chief Minister took a stance as if the injured MLA was lying,’’ said Achuthandan. Dasan said that he was facing a situation wherein justice was not coming from the Speaker or the Leader of the House. ‘’This is when a case has been registered against the concerned circle inspector on the basis of my complaint registered as 190/2012 in the Koyilandi station, over the atrocities against me and other workers on March 9, 2012,’’ he said. He asked whether a privilege and rights of an MLA should not be protected and a probe should be conducted when a genuine complaint is lodged. ‘’I have never said that the injuries sustained by me were grave. Bruises were only in the back of my shoulders and in the elbow. But then, it was due to police excesses,’’ he asserted. To a query, the Opposition Leader said that taking the protest over the issue to the streets has not been thought of, for the present. ‘’The approach of the Chief Minister on the issue is not proper,’’ he said.
