A new method of stealing has been unearthed by the Government Railway Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura station. After receiving several theft complaints from passengers over the past few days, the station’s GRP in charge Sandeep Tomar started scanning CCTV footage and was left surprised.

The station’s GRP in charge decided to probe the matter after several passengers complained about their missing phones and other valuable items.

On scanning the CCTV, the camera inside the passengers’ waiting room showed some sleeping passengers, reported NDTV. The footage does not stand out till one of them moves. The man looks around to check if someone’s watching.

After everything was clear, the man turned to his right and moved his right hand to the pocket of a sleeping passenger. After multiple attempts, he finally succeeds and pulls out a cell phone from the sleeping passengers pocket.

Soon after his target was achieved, he moved to the next passenger. He again looks around to make sure he is not being watched. After pulling out a mobile phone from another passengers pocket, he gets up and leaves the waiting room with his loot.

Soon after the thief was identified in the CCTV, railway police without wasting much time caught him.

The thief was identified as Avnish Singh (21), a resident of Etah district. He was arrested on Tuesday, reported NDTV. A mobile phone was recovered from him, and police said he has admitted to stealing five phones.
