The top brass of the state police led by incharge director-general of police V Dinesh Reddy have reiterated that Assamese are safe in the state, more particularly in the city, and advised them not to panic and leave the city.
For the safety of those travelling from Karnataka and other places to their home state by trains passing through Andhra Pradesh the state police are providing armed escorts on trains.
Dinesh Reddy, along with Hyderabad and Cyberabad police commissioners Anurag Sharma and Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao respectively, told mediapersons here on Friday that there was no large-scale exodus of Assamese from the state.
“We appeal to the Assamese people not to get panicky,’’ the in-charge DGP said and claimed that the Hyderabad and Cyberabad police were known for tackling any kind of situation and the city was known for its communal harmony.
“There should not be any scope for rumours or apprehensions. People who have been attacked or feel threatened can approach the nearby police station. Armed platoons have been posted at vulnerable places to give them a sense of security, and patrolling has been intensified.
’’ Dinesh Reddy said there had been a huge exodus of Assamese from Karnataka and the Andhra Pradesh police were providing armed escort to the trains passing through the state.
Additional directorgeneral of police (railways) VS Kaumudi is supervising the security on the trains. On action against those who floated the rumours of attack, Dinesh Reddy said the rumours did not emanate from the state.
It is the inherent fear that is creating panic among the people,’’ he said, adding that the attack in Bangalore was on a Nepali and not on an Assamese. With regard to fleeing of people from the state, the incharge DGP said it was not alarming and their number did not cross three digits.
There had just been a couple of calls to their home state helplines from here. Dinesh Reddy said the reason for the attack at Raidurg in the city was not ethnic. “The person was threatened not just because he is an Assamese,’’ Dinesh Reddy said. Dinesh Reddy said the police were speaking to the people who were waiting to board trains at the railway stations and were assuring safety to them.
‘Media spreading rumours’
HYDERABAD: Even as the exodus of Assamese from the city continues and the police assure them of security, two ministers from Assam arrived in the city on Friday to assuage the feelings and apprehensions of Assamese living here, and accused the media of spreading all sorts of rumours leading to the present situation.
They however assured that they were taking up the matter with the Andhra Pradesh government to provide security to the Assamese.
The duo, minister for panchayat & rural development Rockybul Hussain and minister for industries & commerce Pradyut Bordoloi along with AP home minister P Sabita Indra Reddy on Friday interacted with the Assamese living at Siddique Nagar Crossroads, Gachibowli and promised to provide security to all the Assamese in the city
