Netas go speechless
Netas go speechless
Follow us:WhatsappFacebookTwitterTelegram.cls-1{fill:#4d4d4d;}.cls-2{fill:#fff;}Google NewsIs there any issue on which our politicians, our netas dont have a view? Ok lets think hard. Ummm. from water shortage to cricket matches to anything that begs a face, they have a view on everything.

But do you remember anyone of them opening their mouth on the Jessica Lall case? Two rich, spoilt and drunk sons of politicians shot dead a beautiful young lady. The elite went silent, and so have our politicians. So is there no separation now between Page 3 and Page 1 people?

Why are we not hearing any of the self righteous people like Arun Jaitley of the BJP, Kapil Sibbal of the Congress, and can you forget the Left brigade? Where are the likes of Brinda Karat, Nilotpal Basu and Sitaram Yechury?

As a political junkie, I can think of so many instances where our leaders have got involved even when their views may not have been solicited. Will you call me in your studio for the 10 'o' clock discussion? Thats the typical question which people of my breed keep getting bombarded with. Yet when we wanted someone to come on this issue, there weren't too many people to come forward. Why may I ask?

We boast of having a Prime Minister with the cleanest image possible. A Sonia Gandhi who doesnt believe in power politics. She gave up the Prime Minister's chair when it was hers for the taking, remember? This Parliament has the maximum number of young, first-timer MPs. From Rahul Gandhi to Manvendra Singh (Jaswant Singh's son). Even the young don't deem it fit to help bring the guilty to book.

Ever since news channels, alongwith some print organisations, took it upon themselves to fight for Jessica, at every gathering I am asked one question. How long will this campaign last? And will this campaign serve any purpose? My answer has been that its our job to create opinion. We want people to know and feel what's happening in our society.

Hopefully it's this emotion which will lead to something concrete coming out at some point of time. It may not happen tomorrow, may not happen in a months time. But at least we are talking, and giving people a platform to express their outrage.

In the next few days and weeks, there could be some human rights organisations that could also be involved in the case. But I am still waiting for some of our leaders to come to the fore.

Recently when I asked one of our reporters in Haryana to interview some BJP leaders in the hope that they may want to target Manu Sharma's father, a Congress minister in the state, what he told me totally shocked me. He said that after having spoken to almost everyone who deserved to be spoken to in the BJP there, no one wanted to come on record.

Why? Because everyone has some interest or the other with Manu's dad. Thats the sad part. That politicians have become completely devoid of any strong political beliefs. Anyways I continue to live in the hope that something will happen that will give Jessica some semblane of justice.
