Thanjavur: Former President APJ Abdul Kalam on Saturday stressed the need for developing nanotechnology applications in healthcare to manufacture nano-robots for cancer treatment and nano-drug delivery systems for HIV.
"Development of nanotechnology applications in healthcare needs to be utilised to develop nano-robots for cancer cure and nano-drug delivery systems for HIV," he said speaking at the 25th convocation of SASTRA University at nearby Vallam.
Kalam complimented SASTRA University for its research in frontier areas of nanotechnology and its applications in health care and sensors.
University V-C R Sethuraman conferred an honorary doctorate on Kalam for his outstanding scientific leadership, public intellectualism and statesmanship.
Kalam later interacted with researchers in the Sastra Hub for Research and Innovation.
He urged students to innovate and change for betterment of society and to develop the spirit of hard work and endurance to break the barriers of impossibilities.
The former President later awarded degrees to over 4,222 graduates.
