New Delhi: Delhi's Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung on Wednesday reviewed Delhi's preparedness for the monsoon and issued instructions that all work pertaining to de-silting of drains must be completed by May 15.
"The preparations for monsoon must start much in advance so that the government is ready in all respects to tackle all eventualities," Jung said today as he called for a review of the work done together with a status report by mid May.
Jung also said that the Public Works Department and Municipal Commissioners must ensure that their Chief Engineers and Superintendent Engineers continuously monitor and assess the situation on the ground from the middle of May till the end of the monsoon season in September.
He instructed the departments to build a much better intra-departmental coordination for smooth redressal of queries during the monsoon and stressed that the government must be prepared in all respects to tackle the situation of flooding and water-logging.
"There must be better intra-departmental coordination between the municipalities, the PWD and the Irrigation and Flood Control Department. All control rooms set up by different governmental agencies must be able to address the queries of the respondents, irrespective of whose jurisdiction it falls under," Jung said.
Jung took a meeting with the senior officials of the Delhi Government on Wednesday.
