Uttar Pradesh government has extended the tenure of the one-man inquiry commission into Muzaffarnagar riots by six months.

Uttar Pradesh government has extended the tenure of the one-man inquiry commission into Muzaffarnagar riots by six months.

The tenure of former Justice Vishnu Sahai commission, constituted to probe into Muzaffarnagar riots, has been extended by six months, Special Secretary (Home), Saroj Kumar on Thursday told reporters.

The UP government had on September 10 constituted the commission to probe into the Muzaffarnagar riots and gave it two months time to submit its report. That deadline ended on November 11.

The commission, asked to look into administrative lapses, if any, in controlling the violence which claimed over 60 lives, had sought six months extension from the government.

"The Commission has sought more time to complete its inquiry and the process is already on in this regard," Justice (Retd) Vishnu Sahai had said.
