Mumbai: Unidentified man rapes a 17-year-old girl in Versova
Mumbai which claims to be the safest city in India has witnessed a spurt in violence against women and has raised questions over the security of women.

Mumbai: A 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped at Mumbai's Versova on Sunday evening. No arrests have been made so far in the case.

A man also allegedly raped a four-year-old girl on Sunday evening in Mumbai's Oshiwara. The girl is in a serious condition and has been admitted to Cooper Hospital while the accused has been arrested.

A case has been registered under Indian Penal Code Sections 376 (rape), 363( kidnapping) and also under the Juvenile Protection Act 4, 8 and 12.

The accused had allegedly kidnapped the girl near her house in Tukaram Omble Park and taken her to an isolated park and raped her.

Mumbai which claims to be the safest city in India has witnessed a spurt in violence against women and has raised questions over the security of women. Last month, a 23-year-old photojournalist was gangraped by five men at Shakti Mills compound of Lower Parel in Central Mumbai. She was accompanied by her male colleague who gagged and bound while she was raped.
