Mumbai: The Mumbai airport remained shut for operations for around half an hour on Monday evening due to heavy rains and poor visibility, resulting in diversion of 8 flights.
"The runway operations remained closed between 8 pm and 8.30 pm due to strong tailwinds and poor visibility. There were no operations on the two runways during this time," a Mumbai International Airport Ltd spokesperson said.
Eight flights were diverted to nearby airports during the runway closure time, a Mumbai airport official said.
The operations, however, resumed at 8.35 pm, the MIAL spokesperson said without divulging the flight details.
Road traffic was hit also in Mumbai due to heavy rainfall as many struggled to make their way home from work.
Two children were electrocuted to death when water seeped into the wiring of their house.
The monsoon rains also reached parts of Gujarat on Monday. Many stepped out of their homes to enjoy the first shower. The Met department said more rains are in store.
