CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday ordered the setting up of new traffic police stations in Valasaravakkam and Semmancherry at a cost of Rs 1.05 crore to cope with the increasing vehicular traffic in these areas. She also ordered the creation of 32 new posts for police personnel to man these police stations. At present, Valasaravakkam area comes under the Virugambakkam traffic police limits. Vehicular traffic in this area has gone up manifold due to an exponential increase in the number of multi-storeyed residential flats, educational institutions, commercial establishments and other shops. Taking this into account, the CM has ordered the setting up of a separate police station for Valasaravakkam area.Similarly, many new information technology companies have established their units on Semmancherry, near the Old Mahabalipuram Road. Besides, multi-storeyed residential flats, educational institutions and hotels have also increased in this area leading to heavy vehicular traffic. As the Thoraippakkam traffic police station is unable to manage this increased traffic, the CM ordered the setting up of a new traffic police station for the Semmancherry area.To man both these police stations, the CM has ordered the creation of 32 new posts, including two inspectors, four sub-inspectors, six head constables, six grade-I constables, 12 grade-II constables and two grade-II drivers. The measure will cost a recurring expenditure of Rs 1,88,600 and a non-recurring expenditure of Rs 1.05 crore.
