The monsoon session which began Aug 5, was scheduled to end on August 30.
The decision to extend the session was taken keeping in mind the long list of pending bills which the government hopes to pass during the extended period.
Parliament will not work on Aug 28 due to Janmashtami holiday.
The Food Security Bill was cleared by the house on Monday after long hours of debate. It now has to be cleared by the Rajya Sabha.
