Missing American pleads for help through video
Levinson's family says he was in Iran as a private detective, investigating cigarette smuggling.

Washington: Long after he vanished in Iran, retired FBI agent Robert Levinson has reappeared in a video and a series of photographs sent to his family over the past year.

The surprising proof of life transformed his mysterious disappearance into a hostage standoff. The problem for Levinson's family is the US has no idea who has him. In the 54-second video, sent in November 2010, Levinson pleaded for help and said he wasn't in good health.

The Associated Press delayed reporting on the video because the US government said it would jeopardise efforts to bring Levinson home. Those efforts have stalled, and his wife plans to release the video herself with a personal appeal to the kidnappers.
