'Miracle' Unfolds in Kedarnath as Char Dham Yatra Sees Record Pilgrim Turnout
The Char Dham Yatra remains a testament to the enduring faith and devotion of millions, reinforcing its status as a cherished spiritual journey for pilgrims from across the country and beyond.

The Char Dham Yatra has witnessed a remarkable surge this year, with over 30 lakh devotees embarking on the sacred pilgrimage within just 50 days since its commencement on May 10. The opening of doors at Gangotri, Yamunotri, and Kedarnath on May 10, followed by Badrinath Dham on May 12, marked the onset of this unprecedented pilgrimage season.

Comparatively, last year, it took until June 30 for 30 lakh pilgrims to arrive, whereas this year, the milestone was achieved in less than two months.

Pilgrim Statistics at Various Destinations

As of June 30, Kedarnath Dham welcomed the highest number of pilgrims, with 10 lakh 6 thousand devotees paying their homage at the holy site. Close behind is Badrinath Dham, where 8 lakh 20 thousand pilgrims sought blessings. Additionally, Gangotri Dham saw 4 lakh 98 thousand visitors, while Yamunotri Dham has welcomed nearly 4 lakh 70 thousand pilgrims so far.

Potential for Record-breaking Season

In 2023, Uttarakhand registered a record 56 lakh pilgrims across all four holy sites during the Chardham Yatra. According to government figures, 56 lakh pilgrims visited the sites. Therefore, with 30 lakh pilgrims having already visited within the first 50 days of this year’s pilgrimage, experts estimate that the total number could surpass 56 lakhs by the end of November.

Initial Crowd Now In Control

The onset of this year’s pilgrimage season saw an overwhelming influx of devotees, particularly at Yamunotri and Gangotri, prompting authorities to halt offline registrations temporarily. Subsequently, measures were implemented to normalise the pilgrimage flow, including the removal of daily visitor limits once the situation stabilised.

The Char Dham Yatra remains a testament to the enduring faith and devotion of millions, reinforcing its status as a cherished spiritual journey for pilgrims from across the country and beyond.
