Mint flyover by year-end: Mayor

CHENNAI: Works for the Rs 23 crore-worth Mint flyover at Washermenpet would be completed by the end of the year, Mayor M Subramanian has said.Briefing reporters after inspecting the ongoing construction work in the city on Saturday, Subramanian said, “Construction work for the flyover that began last June, has gained momentum and is expected to be completed in another six months.”The facility is expected to decongest traffic on arterial roads such as Cemetery Road, Basin Bridge Road and Old Jail Road in north Chennai. It could also help motorists from Royapuram, Washermenpet, Vyasarpadi and Pulianthope reach their destinations in less time.To construct the flyover, the Corporation evicted 25 timber shops, which had encroached upon the civic body’s land along the Basin Bridge Road. As the project needed more space, it will obtain 29 grounds belonging to other departments.
