KOTTAYAM: Stressing the importance of media in democracy, Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today said it should play the role of a corrective force.Inaugurating the ruby jubilee (completion of 40 years) celebrations of Press Club here, Chandy said media should play an active role in a democratic set up. 'Impatience towards criticisms was increasing which is not a good trend,' he said.Finance Minister K M Mani said media was entering into a new world where people could get news through online, television and mobile phone.Information and Public Relations Minister K C Joseph said the day-to-day discussions in the assembly depended on the basis of news reports. The trend among the media to follow controversial debates be avoided, he said.The foundation stone for the press club was laid on May 17, 1970 and inaugurated on April 30, 1972 by the then chief minister C Achuthamenon.Various programmes including seminars, lectures and discussions would be organised as part of the celebration in the coming six months which will conclude in April 2012.
