New Delhi: The Indian Maritime University Bill has been re-introduced in the Lok Sabha.
External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukerjee has made it clear that the Bill will be referred to Parliament's Standing Committee, which will make its recommendations and will then return to the Lok Sabha for debate.
Meanwhile, the Government assured the Left parties that the controversial Bill, which created an uproar in Lok Sabha, will de dealt with tactfully.
CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechury was quoted by news agency UNI as saying that the matter had been sorted out amicably.
''First Pranab Mukherejee will introduce the Bill and then it will be referred to the Standing Committee of Parliament. Besides, the Government will also talk to us,'' Yechury was quoted as saying.
The Lower House witnessed frequent adjournments over the introduction of the Bill, with a scuffle breaking out between Left party MPs and the DMK besides other parties from Tamil Nadu.
Left MPs surrounded Union Shipping, Road Transport and Highways Minister T R Baalu when he was about to introduce the Bill, which proposes to shift the Maritime University from Kolkata to Chennai.
One Left MP even tried to snatch a copy of the Bill from the Minister.
