As thousands of cricket fans gathered in south Mumbai to watch the Indian T20 cricket team’s victory promenade, the Mumbai police on Thursday issued an advisory asking commuters to avoid heading towards Marine Drive and nearby areas.
“Due to the heavy rush of fans around Wankhede Stadium for the Victory Parade of the Indian Cricket Team, citizens are requested to avoid commuting towards Marine Drive,” Mumbai police said in an X post it dropped in the evening after the parade rush was reported.

According to X users and locals, the traffic in and around Marine Drive came to a standstill on a busy road in south Mumbai as a crowd of fans gathered to welcome the victorious Indian cricket team.

The road was jam-packed from Nariman Point to Churchgate, with the Wankhede Stadium echoing with enthusiastic cheers as fans awaited the parade of the cricketers on an open-deck bus brought in from Gujarat.
The clip released by news agency ANI shows a crowd taking over the entire road. All the vehicles, including public transportation, have come to a halt on the road.

People started gathering at Marine Drive from as early as 3 pm and at some places, police struggled to bring the crowds under control.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Satyanarayan took stock of the security arrangements at Marine Drive and Wankhede Stadium earlier in the day.
The T20 World Cup winning side is to take part in a two-hour open bus parade from the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in Nariman Point to Wankhede Stadium.
