Man On Moon, Permanent UNSC Seat: BJP's Poll Manifesto Gives Major Boost To Space Projects & Security
PM Modi also said that the ambition of the people of the country is Modi's mission. We saw the success of Chandrayaan. Now we will experience the pride of Gaganyaan

Two of the main highlights in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s 2024 Lok Sabha election manifesto talk about landing an astronaut on the Moon and seeking India’s permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council.

BHARAT AS LEADING SPACE POWER

Releasing the election manifesto of the BJP, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that a key focus is on landing an astronaut on the Moon.

“We will launch Gaganyaan, Bharat’s first human spaceflight mission, and land an astronaut on the Moon, a sign of Bharat’s progress and prosperity in Amrit Kaal,” the manifesto read.

In position India as a leading space power, the BJP has also talked about establishing “Bharatiya Antariksha Station (BAS)”. It has said that a second launch pad will also be operationalised for the nation.

“We aim to significantly increase the value of the Space Economy, positioning Bharat as a leading space power and extending support to Global South countries in utilising space and space technology services,” the manifesto said.

PM Modi said that immediately after the June 4 results, work on BJP’s Sankalp Patra will begin. “The government has already started working on the 100-day action plan,” he said.

“The ambition of the people of the country is Modi’s mission. We saw the success of Chandrayaan. Now we will experience the pride of Gaganyaan,” PM Modi said.

INDIA’S PERMANENT SEAT AT UNSC

Becoming a permanent member in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is another commitment that the BJP has made in its election manifesto.

“We are committed to seeking permanent membership in the UN Security Council to elevate Bharat’s position in global decision making,” the manifesto read.

Not just this, the party said that efforts will continue to create a consensus among all members of the United Nations on the Comprehensive Convention against International Terrorism and other such efforts to combat the phenomenon. “We will build upon the success of the ‘No Money for Terror’ conference to develop better coordination on countering terrorism financing,” it read.

The BJP has consistently reinforced the nation’s ‘zero tolerance’ policy against terrorism.

In recent times, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had told News18 that the government will give a befitting reply to any terrorist who tries to disturb peace in the nation.

“If he [terrorist] flees to Pakistan, we will follow him and take him down on Pakistani soil. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken the truth… India has the capability and Pakistan has also started understanding that,” Singh had said when he was asked about the UK newspaper, The Guardian’s report that Indian government ordered assassinations in Pakistan as part of a wider strategy to eliminate terrorists on foreign soil.

India’s character is maintaining cordial relations with its neighbour. We, as a nation have never attacked or occupied even an inch of any other country, the Defence Minister said.

“However, if someone tries intimidating India by fomenting terror on our soil, they will not be spared,” he added.

A few days back, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had also reiterated India’s commitment to respond against any act of terrorism perpetrated from across the borders, saying that there cannot be any rules in a country’s answer to terrorists.

“Terrorists should not think; we are this side of the line, so no could touch us. Terrorists do not play by any rules. The answer to terrorists cannot have any rules,” Jaishankar said.
