BANGALORE: Gayatrinagar Corporator Chetana Prafulchandra and Malleswaram MLA Ashwathnarayana laid foundation stone for ground-level reservoir and inaugurated a modern garbage collection machine at Ramamohanapura on Wednesday. The three wards of Malleswaram constituency Gayatrinagar, Kadumalleshwara and Guttahalli were up in arms against elected representative for failing to tackle the water crisis following which the idea to renovate the reservoir which was not in use for the past 18 years at the Gayatrinagar at a cost of Rs 54 lakh has been taken up. If the plan is implemented, around 36 lakh litres of water can be stored in it.BWSSB identified around 6,000 households in this constituency which will be given first priority and water will be supplied regularly . Speaking to Express Kadumalleshwara Corporator Manjunath Raju said, “Sixty percent of the houses in Gayatrinagar and 25 percent of Kadumalleshwara Ward are facing acute shortage of water. This plan can solve their problems. The contract to complete the work has been awarded to Civil Aid Group. There is a four-month deadline for the completion of the project and we have asked all the residents to cooperate.” “We have convinced our MLA to release grants as early as possible to renovate and ensure the supply of water,” said Chetana Prafulchandra. “Another point of concern in the area is garbage collection. The contract has been given to Srinivas Gowda and the area has now got a new automated garbage clearing lorry worth Rs 90 lakh,” she added.
